Congratulations Olelo Video Award Winners and Finalists!

Olelo Awards Banquet

The Olelo Awards Banquet is where students from all over Hawaii come together to share and compete in the create videos that they created to address specific topics important to our community.  The students at this banquet have the opportunity to be recognized for their creative thoughts flowing and put  video.  It’s also not just a place to share and compete but get influenced by the messages behind each video.  The videos that each student creates have a positive message about the mistakes people all around us make but we could stop it if we spread the message around.  Also with this banquet, it gives you an idea of all the new and interesting content that could be made and there’s not just only one specific way to do it.

This year Kawananakoa Media Students produced videos and were selected as State Finalists in four categories.  Jayna Benito, Rachel Inouye, and Lauren Kam produced a video titled, "Don't let the keyboard take the wheel," in the Traffic Safety category.  Chloe Chan, Chanelle Junio, and Lauren Jay were finalists in the Animation category for their video, "You don't get a second chance."

Annie Wong, Man Ian Woo, and Ann Wu were the video competition winners in the  Start Living Healthy Category for their video, "Be Active!," which focused on the importance of PE classes in schools.

Celina Bhandari video contest winner in the Malama `Aina category for her video, " Love, Appreciate, and take care of the Land."

With the experience I had at Olelo Banquet, it opened my eyes that at any age and place, anyone could create a fascinating video.  There’s children at the age of 8 creating all this content that I wouldn’t have thought of.  It’s a community where everyone has a passion of making videos and seeing what everyone else has created.  There’s a “wow” factor to the videos that won and you’ll be amazed at the quality that was produced at a young age.  But, everyone that was gathered in the room wasn’t focused just about winning, they were all proud of the content that was created just with a mind and a camera.
