First day for all students

Tuesday, August 3 will be the first day all students report to school for the 2010-11 school year.

Nominations for 6th Grade Officers & Homeroom Representatives

Nominations are taking place this week. 
Nominees will be asked if they would like to run.
Campaigning will take place from Tuesday, August 10th through Tuesday August 17th. 

Elections will be held on CCTV on Tuesday, August 17th.
6th Graders will vote for their chosen officers during AA. 
Homeroom Representatives for 6th Graders are also due on Friday, August 6th.

New Student Orientation

Monday, August 2 is the first day for new student at Kawananakoa Middle School to report for orientation day. They will begin with an assembly to introduce the staff and procedures. Sixth graders will tour the campus with their AA teacher. There will also be field games to energize everyone.  Students will be able to met their new teachers, see where all their classes will be and get a chance to get comfortable before all the students arrive on Tuesday. Returning 7th and 8th graders report on Tuesday, August 3rd.

Summer school is almost half over

Summer school started on June 1st. Wednesday, June 16 is the halfway point. The last day is Friday, July 2nd.

May 14 Friday No school

Friday May 14th is a furlough friday and school will be closed. It is the last furlough friday for this school year. Next week is a full week.

Friday May 7 No School

This is another furlough friday so there will be no school this day.

Wednesday May 5 Excellence Night

Excellence Night is Wednesday May 5th. Examples of student work and achievements will be on display from 5pm to 7pm.

Yuuki is a 14 year-old teenager who forgot her past. This unlucky turn out happened when two strangers went to her house and magically disappeared that night when her memory was erased. Yuuki doesn't know who she is or who are her parents but still enjoys daily life with her made up name Lisz. She enjoys music and is a very optimistic person, but her real self still lives in the past. What happened that night when she lost her memories?

Spring picture

Chiki Oneshi is herself. The ears you see on her head are her pride and joy. Chiki lives among the rainbows and only comes down when she sees a human is sad. Nobody knew she still exists because one day she disappeared and never came back. Until someone saw her among the rainbows. They say she still lives within the rainbows to this day. If you pray to her they say your wishes will come true.

Friday March 26 No School

Friday March 26 will be Kuhio Day and a school holiday.

Friday March 12 No School

Friday, March 12 is a furlough friday and is also the end of the 3rd quarter. There will be no school until Monday, March 22 because of Spring Break.

Lillian Nguyen has been named a merit award winner in the 22^nd annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. The theme of this year’s competition was “The Power of Peace.”

              “Peace will only come around when people’s hearts change,” said Nguyen.

              Nguyen’s winning poster was chosen for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of this year’s theme. She is one of 23 merit award winners chosen from more than 350,000 entries drawn by children ages 11 to 13 from 70 countries.

              As a merit award winner, she will be presented with a cash award of US$500 and a certificate of achievement by the Honolulu Lions Club, local sponsor of the contest.

Friday, March 12 is a Furlough Friday. There will be no school. It is also the end of the third quarter. Spring break begins. Students return to school on Monday, March 22.

2/15 President's Day No School

This used to be George Washington's Birthday.  Then it was changed to the generic Presidents' Day in the early 1970's. Now it is sort of a catch-all day, a quick tip of the hat to Washington who was born on February 22nd, and another giant, Abraham Lincoln who was born on February 12th.
